Organization Invest International opened its doors in October 2021, in The Hague. We are a state-owned company set-up by the Dutch government. A private company funded with public capital. Private Sector Business Unit

Besides its on balance activities, the Private Sector Business Unit carries out various programs and schemes for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Development Cooperation (BHOS) aimed at financing international activities of Dutch companies.

The unit Private Sector consists of three client teams:

  • SME & Mid. Corporates

  • Large corporates/Structured Finance

  • Equity

This is a starting position within the Large Corporates/Structured Finance team. The team consists of approximately 10 experts from five nationalities with knowledge and expertise in the field of international finance in emerging and developing countries. The products typically consist of Investment loans, export finance loans and project finance structures. The projects are mostly complex where the risks are too high for commercial financiers to step in. In structuring, the team works closely together with other institutions such as export credit agencies, development banks and multilateral organizations. Our financial solutions are centered around the international activities of Dutch entrepreneurs that contribute to the earning capacity of the Netherlands and sustainable international and local development: the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The position

The position is a full-time role as an analyst. The Analyst role is a starting position, growing towards the investment manager role. As an analyst, you learn on the job the world of financing in emerging markets with all its aspects. One or more investment managers will mentor you.

You will support the investment managers in the full process from acquisition to financial analysis, environmental analysis, KYC analysis, drafting of credit proposals and support in the loan documentation and negotiation. Furthermore, you will be together with an investment manager responsible for the client and the finance facility during the loan tenor.  Training in financial analysis, public finance, or other skills that you require will be provided.

To be successful, you work closely together with the other Private Sector departments and the other units that are key in our internal processes, like the ESG and Risk & Compliance department. Under supervision of the investment managers, you will maintain contact with our Dutch clients and our foreign borrowers as well as other related parties such as our embassies, Multilateral organizations, law firms, Ministries etc. You also visit these countries and monitor the implementation of the projects there.

Our team needs an energetic person for whom this is his/hers first or second job. You are proactive, critical, have a problem-solving attitude and are persuasive. As a quick learner you will get more responsibilities and perform more tasks yourself. The working language in the organization is English.

Requirements & characteristics

In addition to basic knowledge in finance and economics, a curious and proactive attitude towards entrepreneurs who want to invest in developing and emerging countries is crucial. For this, you have knowledge of, or affinity with developing countries, with a preference for experience at the intersection of development cooperation and private sector development. You are willing to travel to developing countries.

You have completed academic education, preferably in the field of finance, economics, business economics and law, or business administration with possibly a couple of years of work experience.

Furthermore, you also have the following skills and competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of reading financial reports.

  • Good communication and writing skills and excellent knowledge of making PowerPoint presentations as well as skills in making Excel calculations.

  • Strong administration skills with appropriate attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Flexible, pragmatic, and capable of working on several assignments at the same time.

  • Strong skills in planning, organizing and prioritizing.

  • Strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.

  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal are required. One or more foreign languages are a plus.

  • A self-starting mentality and the ability to apply a ‘helicopter’ view (taking into account all stakeholder interests) in complex decision-making processes.

  • Excellent up-to-date knowledge of, and insight into development cooperation (specifically private sector development) and international entrepreneurship.

  • You have affection for the developing world and are familiar with the SDGs.

  • You have sufficient analytical skills, judgment, and numerical insight to understand business plans.

  • You like to tackle things in a structured way and are not deterred by processes and administration.

  • You are a team player who wants to work together to achieve results.

  • You are critical, proactive, sensitive to the environment, strong in communication and eager to learn.

  • You are customer oriented.

  • You are creative and you identify opportunities, and you have problem-solving skills.

  • You estimate the feasibility of actions and/or decisions well.

  • You have a sense of responsibility, and a critical attitude and you work accurately.
