Organization

Invest International is a private company funded by the Dutch government. We support innovative Dutch solutions for global challenges by making high-impact investments feasible. Our hybrid model combines capital and project development to help governments and businesses turn bold ideas into reality. Invest International opened its doors as of October 2021 and has about 180 employees.

The department

Next to managing Invest International’s own core capital, the Private Sector Department carries out various programs and schemes for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Development Cooperation aimed at financing international activities of Dutch companies. The Private Sector Department consists of three client teams: SME & Midsized Corporates, Large Corporates and Equity.

The Equity team is a team within the Private Sector business unit that invests globally in early- and growth stage SMEs and private equity funds with a strong link with the Dutch economy. Invest International’s priority sectors are Agri-food, Climate & energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Water & infra. Our geographical investment focus is global.

The Equity team is responsible for 1) investing in private equity funds, companies and projects 2) managing a growing investment portfolio, and 3) realizing exits at attractive returns. The team is supported by ESG and impact specialists and can rely on sector expertise of Invest International’s sector teams. On transactions, the team will often work closely together and/or co-invest with other institutions such as development banks, investment funds and multilateral organizations.

A position in the team offers a unique opportunity in the field of international equity investments. You will be exposed to a wide range of transactions with start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs and investment funds (PE/VC and Impact funds).

The position

The position is an Intern on the Equity team.

In this role you will:

  • actively support the deal teams in the entire investment process, engaging in management level meetings, screening new investment opportunities, and conducting investment analysis;

  • participate with Investment Managers in due diligence and research;

  • perform deep dives into markets/sub-sectors that could be of interest to the Equity team to determine future (direct) investment angles and opportunities;

  • work on new projects within the team/department and participate in organization-wide projects;

  • contribute to building a great, high quality, ambitious, hard-working and fun-loving Equity team!

Requirements

In addition to basic knowledge of finance and economics, you have a curious and proactive attitude towards entrepreneurs active in developing and emerging countries. You have knowledge of, or affinity with, developing and emerging countries, with a preference for experience at the intersection of investment, impact and development cooperation.

You are currently pursuing a MSc degree, preferably in the field of finance, economics, engineering or business administration. You have an interest in the fields of private equity, venture capital and impact finance.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate has the following skills and competencies:

  • You are an experienced MS Office suite user including skills to make Excel calculations.

  • You have knowledge of reading financial reports.

  • Critical, proactive, sensitive to the environment, strong in communication and eager to learn.

  • You are flexible, pragmatic, and capable of working on several assignments at the same time.

  • You have strong skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing.

  • You have strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.

  • You have affection for the developing world and are familiar with the SDGs.

  • You have excellent Dutch and English communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • You have the ability to commit to a full-time internship for at least 6 months starting in March 2026.

  • You are currently living in the Netherlands.

  • You are available to be in the office 3x a week in The Hague.

Please note that interns need to be registered as a student for the whole length of the internship.
